Blogger Idol - Week Eleven - Pagent Questions

Just a quick entry this week, as I'm paying for the computer time at the hostel I'm staying at in Dublin. The theme this week is Pagent Questions, and we were to pick a question from this site, and answer it. (You got to see the range of questions they actually have for beauty pagent wannabes.)

The question: What is genocide?
The answer: I think that is when genos decide to end their life on their own terms.

Thank you, I'll be here all week.

Ireland Bound

Saturday morning, I will be leaving this town with seventeen others to spend a week working in Ireland. We will spending the week working at Dublin Christian Mission. We will be working in various tasks, from painting to assisting with their youth clubs. Not too much else to say right now about that. This will be the third team I've lead to work at DCM, and the second BFA team I've taken there.

Just thought I'd let you know, and put a photo of the team up. For those who are praying people, we could use some of those during this trip. Thanks.

Blogger Idol - Week Ten - Childhood Treasures

This week's theme is "Childhood Treasures," and I am going to keep it simple. I now present a few select childhood memories, events and things when I look back, I have to smile: (in no particular order - or even significance - just what is coming to mind tonight...)

1. Getting a Commodore 64 for Christmas.
2. My pet rabbit, Slipper.
3. Summer vacations with the family
4. Meeting the new girl in the fifth grade class, and thus the beginning of my first major crush.
5. A great fifth grade year, which was well over due after the hell that my fourth grade teacher created.
6. Wiffleball games in the backyard
7. Watching cartoons like Justice League of Superfriends, and then discussing them at school the next day, like they were the major news of the day.
8. My screen test for a Skippy Peanut Butter commercial, that could have turned me into a childhood star, followed by a life of drugs, "Where Are They Now Shows," and selling my sad story later in life.
9. Sneaking downstairs to watch the Soupy Sales Show.
10. The World's Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee - Where America fully introduced the world to the hillbillies.

Well, that will have to do for now....

Fair Warning to All Shopkeepers

Someone has put new urinal air fresheners in the men's room at my workplace. The problem is that they smell like Sweetarts. And I fear that if Pavlov's theory is correct, I will someday find myself losing bladder control in the candy isle of a grocery store. That would not be pretty. And all I will say is "Dang those urinal fresheners!" Oh yea, and, "Cleanup on isle three!"

Love This Title

Sorry if this offends anyone out there, but this has to be one of the best news titles I've read all month, "Zombies Push Jesus from Top of North American Box Office"

I'm actually debating going to see "The Passion of Jesus Christ" this week. The problem is that it is only subtitled in German over here, and my German reading ablility is slightly limited. So I ask is it worth it if I can't understand what is being said? Or should I just read the book?

Other People's Blogs

Today I want to point out a couple of other blogs out there. I've already mentioned Drew's blog in the past, mainly because he banned me from posting comments on one of his entries. Well, in a recent entry of his, he mentioned a friend we have in common, who goes by GI_Chicka. Now, Drew thinks he is all cool because he claims that GI_Chicka told him that he is her best friend. Well, I got news for the Drew, I have witnesses who can confirm that GI_Chicka said that I am "her favorite person in the whole world." I just thought I would share that with everone.

Another web blogger out there who has recently mentioned me is yet another friend of Der_Iron_Chef, who goes by
Bethers78. See she just put one and one together and discovered that kandernboy and I are one in the same. I will give her credit, as she took the time not only to fill out the online girlfriend application, but she had some dang funny answers. (and she mentioned it in her blog.)

So what does all this mean? Absolutely nothing. I just wanted to give some traffic to some other people, as well as see how many links I could enter into this post. If you are reading this, and have mentioned me or this site, let me know, and I'll give you some mad traffic in the future. And if any of my other friends out there have some stupid blog, let me know as well, and the linking might happen. No promises though.

Post #150 - To Whom It May Concern

This post is directed to the person who was sneaking around in my mailbox at work.

To you the Sneaky One,
You probably thought you were really sly, asking me if I had seen a certain movie, and mentioning how you were thinking about going to see it in the theather. I bet you thought you were successful to get me to mention not only did I see it, but had it on DVD. I bet you were about to list yourself as clever when I started talking about how you could borrow it soon, after I had the chance to watch it again. Well, you are wrong on all accounts. Why? You made a simple mistake, in that you infringed in my personal space, and you admitted to it. You told me that you had seen the movie sitting in my mailbox. So when I went up to see that my movies had been returned, I noticed that they were all in my box, pushed all the way to the back, and were put there so that no one could see what movies they were. Thus, it appears that you had to take them out, and then put them back again. Thus, you will not be borrowing said movie anytime soon. It might be a bit harsh, but dang it, that is just the way I'm feeling about this matter at this point. Sorry.

Here are the old comments.

Web Quiz Friday...

So, I'm going to take a few of these "which ____ are you" quizes and post the results for my viewers.

How dumb are you?

Like, you're real dumb. Totally!

If you're lucky, your abject stupidity will become the stuff of legend. For decades to come, people will recall how you ran into a lamppost at your cousin's barbecue, or how you brought the world to the brink of nuclear war by peeing into Jiang Zemin's bidet. Not that you know who Jiang Zemin is. Or what a bidet is. Fool.

What Video Game Character Are You? I am an Asteroid.I am an Asteroid.

I am a drifter. I go where life leads, which makes me usually a very calm and content sort of person. That or thoroughly apathetic. Usually I keep on doing whatever I'm doing, and it takes something special to make me change my mind. What Video Game Character Are You?

Web Quizes Rock

I really don't know what I find interesting about all the stupid web quizes out there, but dang it, I do. So today I'm going to take a few and let you know the results....

Which Colossal Death Robot Are You?

Vast, red and ready to turn into a lorry at the slightest provocation, you are a robot to be reckoned with. Although sickeningly noble, you just can't resist a good interplanetary war, especially when Orson Welles is involved. You have friends who can shoot tapes from their chests. Tapes that turn into panthers. And other friends who are dinosaurs. Dinosaurs who jump out of planes. Will you have my children?

Which Annoying B-list Celebrity Are You?

You're Pauly Shore.

Possibly the most obnoxious B-list celebrity there ever was or could ever be, you were once an MTV veejay but have since moved into the world of really, really bad movies. Take, for example, Biodome. Or the risible Encino Man (aka California Man). You've complained that Beavis and Butthead stole your act - and you may well be right. Ugh.

Could have been a funny story....

So this guy writes an article title, "RIAA Claims Music On Car Radios Meant Only For Original Vehicle Owner!!!!," but in the first line after the title is the word satire in parenthesis, and then after the last line is another announcement of the fact that it is satire. As one who enjoys a good satirical piece of reading, the one thing that will kill that enjoyment is banners telling me that it is satire. If it is good satire, most people will fall for it, but upon deep thinking later, will kick themselves for being tricked. But then again, that is just my opinion, and this post is not satire.

Help A Brother Out

Dear reader of this blog. Recently a friend of mine posted a question on his weblog, but specifically listed my name, saying I was not to comment under any of my aliases. And my lame attempt to sneak a comment into his comment section was blocked. (Thanks for trying Corban.) Hitting Too Close To Home

Once in a while the right song enters your world just at the right time. Recently this happened to me. I had the opportunity to hear Stephen Dawson and Diane Christiansen in concert, and they sang the song, "The Thing You Love Is Killing You." Dang, this song moved me like no other has recently. I felt like they had actually seen some of the thoughts in my head, and put it to some beautiful music. To all of you struggling to make a difference in this world, I present the lyrics to you.

I see your face all is not well
you try to hide it away but it's easy to tell
you stick to your guns even though you know it's true
the thing you love is killing you

when you were a kid inspiration called
slowly you've narrowed it down to a desk and a wall
you pour out your soul to a world who's indifference is spelled out for you
the thing you love is killing you

the thing you love won't let you sleep
your house out of order and your resistance weak
and what could you offer with such desperate eyes?
you try to recover a year at a time and when it's all over what conclusion do you come to?
the thing you love is killing you

Check out their band's site, where you can download a clip of the song. I highly recommend ordering their Duets CD. You will thank me for it.

Blogger Idol - Week Eight - I Confess

This weeks theme is "I Confess." Although I've heard that phrase many a time, I decided to go to the online dictionary sources to see just what it meant (and what route I should take this blog entry) According to one source the verb confess is "to admit, make a clean breast of"

When I read that I thought of a previous job I once had. See I had a job where almost every day I was surrounded by butts and breasts. In fact there were some days where all worked with were butts, while other days were specifically spent with breasts. On those days, it was my responsibility to make a clean breast of things.

Yes, I confess I worked at a meat processing plant, and I processed a whole lot of pork butts and turkey breasts.

By the way, I found this photo on a webpage instructing how to mummify a chicken.

Looks like someone else is making a clean breast as well.

Yippie, I Won Me Some Money

I just got a check in the mail for $13.86 as part of the Compact Disc Minimum Advertised Price Settlement. See, last year my brother told me about this lawsuit against some of the big music companies by 43 states' Attorney Generals. Anyone who purchased music on CD, tape, or vinyl between January 1, 1995 to December 22, 2000 was eligible to receive a part of the settlement. And believe it or not, I actually made a couple purchases of music during that time. When I filled out the online form last year, I didn't really expect I would get any money out of the deal, but wow, I now have enough to go out and buy something. Who wants to guess what I'll buy?

Now if there would only be a case like this for people who purchased videos and DVDs.

Fresh Eggs

Yesterday I did some shopping in the local grocery store, as my supplies were low. On the list were some eggs, so I picked up 10, as they don't sell them by the dozen over here. When I got them home, I was amazed at how fresh these eggs were, as I saw this....

A Long Way Home

This morning, as I got up, I debated going to church. It is not that I don't like my church, I really enjoy going. It was that I was aware that my passport was sitting in some office waiting to get a visa renewal, and thus, I probably should not risk crossing the border on the way to church. See, every week I cross the border between Germany and Switzerland usually twice a week at least. (I also get to cross the Rhine River, which is cool to me, not only because it was one of the major rivers of the world I studied in grade school, but it reminds me of a cool band, Over The Rhine.) Well, I decided that since I missed church last week due to the retreat I should go anyway. Plus, I've crossed that border hundreds of times, and have only been stopped three or four times.

Well, I made it to church with no problems. I even prayed a little prayer before nearing the border, that if I was not to go, that I to be turned around before getting to Switzerland. The problem came after church. I got back into my car and headed to the autobahn. When I got less than two kilometers from the border I hit what is best described by the German word, STAU, aka a traffic jam. It then took me one hour to travel that 1.3 kilometers. Yes, you read that right. I joke you not when I say that there was a guy walking along the road faster than I was moving. Plus you know it is bad, when the Germans and Swiss start reading newspapers and books while sitting in a stau. I even saw one lady get out and walk her dog.

What was the cause of this stau? It appeared that they were checking every passport of everyone entering this fine country. Whoops. This doesn't happen that often. I began to sweat a little, and pray that somehow I would not end up in some German cell, or even trapped in Switzerland. (It wouldn't be that bad, except my skis were in Germany) I then began to hope that since I had local plates, they would wave me through, so they could take more time to do full body cavity searches on the Dutch.

Unfortunately, I did get stopped, and in my best German, ha... I played the stupid American card, and said that I had forgotten my passport, while showing my German drivers license. After the guard did some searching on his computer (or at least played a couple games of minesweeper) he then told me not to come back with out my passport in the future.

I was in. I was almost home, and the road was clear ahead of me. So I dropped the car into fifth, and headed for home. Arriving only one and a half hours after I left church, a trip that usually takes about twenty five minutes.

But I ask you, would you let this guy in your country?

Blogger Idol - Week Seven - Play

This weeks theme for Blogger Idol is "Play." And to honor this theme, I'm going to encourage you all to follow the following steps:

1. Push yourself away from your keyboard and put down your mouse/
2. Shut your computer down - Wait before you do, using a non-electric writing device, write the rest of the tips down.
3. Find the nearest exit.
4. Proceed to that exit, taking as man other people with you.
5. Commence some form of entertainment. Might I suggest: lawn darts, football, tag, running, wiffleball, hide and seek, hiking, cloud watching, spashing in puddles, skiing (see previous post), hopskotch, or go karting.
6. Continue step five until darkness, funding, or work responsibilites is too much to deal with.

Yes, my friends, get away from the computer and learn again to play like you used to as a kid. Have some fun. This boy actually is going to step away from his computer for a few days to do some serious non-online playing.

German Highway Hazards

As a frequent driver of the German autobahn, I found this short news report kind of funny. I'm almost expecting to have a family member call me to see if I'm alright, as it did happen a near me, and I might have gotten caught in the traffic jam, aka stau. The interesting thing is I've actually hit one of these wild boars with my car. Although, it is not as funny a story as my friend who hit a stork with a van a few years ago.

Well, for those of you keeping score at home, I just got back from a retreat with over two hundred high school students. We headed down to Stoos, Switzerland for a few days of enjoying the surroundings. While we had to attend several meetings, a good chunck of the time was spent hanging with students on the ski slopes. It was a great time for all. Here are a couple shots of the slopes and view from the top.
